Professional Statement
Sarah Peace graduated from Georgian Court University with her B.A. in psychology in May of 2013. During her undergrad years she interned at Toms River Youth Services, which is an after school program for children and adolescents ages 7-13. While at Toms River Youth Services, she worked closely with the owner and assisted in doing intakes. As time went by she learned how to use games and books to connect with kids and teach them lessons in areas such as how to deal with emotions, bullying, and making friendships with others. She even assisted parents in making behavior charts for their children, teaching children how to work towards a common goal. Sarah continued her studies at Georgian Court and graduated Cum Laude with her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health. During her Master’s program, Sarah interned with Preferred Behavioral Health in an IOP program for adolescents who suffer with addictions and mental health illnesses. Sarah has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in both an individual and group setting. Sarah created a Mindful Mama’s group to help mom’s find their identity outside of being a mom and has built a social skills curriculum to help youth build on life skills needed. Sarah utilizes a client-centered approach to counseling, while developing and building upon a client’s strengths. She realizes that each client is unique and tailors treatment to fit the individual. Sarah is additionally trained in Reality Therapy from Georgian Court University. This approach helps motivate clients in identifying what actions they need to take to meet their goals. Additionally, she has experience working with ADHD, Anxiety, Attachment-based issues, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar, Conduct Disorder, Depression, Grief-related issues, LGBTQ youth, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Self-esteem issues, Self-injurious behaviors, and Substance use.
